Another Perfect Weekend

Les Mwirichia

The Iowa State Cyclones were a perfect 3-0 this weekend in Utah. The Cyclones are now 7-1 for the spring season. They finished the weekend by taking down the 0-6 Weber State Wildcats, 4-0.

Playing the first two matches in Logan, Utah, in which they defeated both Utah and Idaho State. The Cyclones traveled to Ogden, Utah, where the opportunity for a perfect 3-0 weekend awaited them.

Playing at a high level all weekend at both singles and doubles, the Cyclones wouldn’t let up on their last day in Utah. As a matter of fact, they began the match on a high note winning all three of the doubles pairings. Iowa State’s Samantha Budai and Liza Buss defeated Sara Parker and Agata Bachanek of Weber State 6-1, Alejandea Galvis and freshman Annabella Bonadonna took a 6-1 victory over Wildcats Kristi Elmer and Morgan Dickason. Then finally Cyclones Regina Espindola alongside Ana Gasparovic won 6-2 over Dominique Beauvais and Devi Hasan.

That high level intensity carried over into single play with three immediate victories that would insure the win for the Cyclones. Buss defeated Elmer 6-3, 6-1. Improving her personal record to 21-4. Espindola took a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Parker. Then Bonadonna would end the day winning 6-2, 6-1, over Dickason.

Now returning to Ames, the Cyclones have a few days to prepare for an in-state rivalry match against 1-4 UNI. They will meet at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center at 3:00 p.m on Friday the 19th.
