ISU softball fell in a close matchup against UC Davis, 4-6, Thursday afternoon in its first game of the Aggie Invitational.

The Auggies got the scoring started early, with two runs coming from a walk and groundout in the first inning.

UC Davis would tack another run in the third to make the score 3-0. The Cyclones would be held scoreless until the fourth inning when Kirstine Caudle scored on an error.

Both teams would score two runs in the fifth inning, and Iowa State would plate another Cyclone to make the score 4-6.

Freshman pitcher Emma Hylen was pulled after 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and four walks. Hylen has been the Cyclones most consistent pitcher so far this season.

Junior transfer Mandi Moore came into the game in relief, allowing only one run in 3.1 innings to close out the game.

The Cyclones have a Friday doubleheader Friday, first against South Dakota at 1 p.m. and then Idaho State later at 3 p.m.
