Though track and field may seem like an individual sport, the ISU men’s track and field team put together hard work and positive mindsets to score 71 team points in the Big 12 Championships. The Cyclones left Lied Recreation center with another handful of personal bests and a sixth place finish overall.

Taylor Sanderson held on tightly to his first place lead after the last three events in the men’s heptathlon. With a finishing score of 5,510, Oklahoma’s Thomas Cheval just barely passes Sanderson by five points, wining the heptathlon title.

Freshman, Alexandru Mitirica, competed in the men’s triple jump. With a 49-11.75, the Romania native finished in fourth place with a personal best jump.

In the 60 meter hurtles, sophomore, Elijah Young and Sanderson took seventh and eighth place with times of 8.24 and 8:40.

Christian DeLago competed in the final round of the mile with the third fastest seed time.  With a strong finish, DeLago placed seventh with a time of 4:13.52

Junior, Derek Jones, took second in his heat and fifth overall in the finals for the 600 yard run with a time of 1:11.24, just .10 seconds off of his personal best time from the 2014 outdoor season.

Jan Jeuschede and Nace Plesko both competed in the men’s shot put. Plesko showcased his skills and finished sixth overall while Jeuschede used a personal record to earn a second place finish overall, contributing eight points to the Cyclone’s collection.

Two Cyclones competed in the 1000-meter run. Christian DeLago took sixth place finishing at 2:25.91 and Brandon Wheat took fourth coming in at 2:25.46.

Jacob Aune, the lone cyclone in the 800-meter run, entered the finals with the fourth fastest prelim time and finished in fifth place with a time of 1:51.98.

Before the meet ended, the 3000-meter run saw five Cyclones in the finals. A notable run by Daniel Everett earned him a silver medal finish with a time of 8:14.37.

After the NCAA Indoor Championships, the Cyclones will compete in the Tulsa Duals on March 19, in Tulsa, Okla.
