Lectures Program hosts discussion on American prisons

Eric Wirth

An Iowa State political science professor is set to talk Tuesday about an issue that one can hope will never affect them: prison injustice.

At 6 p.m in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union, Alex Tucnkess, professor of political science, will examine the American prison system.

Alex Tuckness is the coauthor of the book entitled “The Decline of Mercy in Public Life,” which tries to expose why mercy is rarely used as a justification for decisions in law and public policy in today’s society.

In Tuesday’s lecture, Tuckness will take on the issue of American prisons and the injustices incurred within them. Tuckness argues that the justice system’s lack of mercy is caused by modern society’s attitudes rather than a Christian background as others in the field argue.
