The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Winter Storm Warning, which includes Ames and Iowa State, ahead of a winter storm that will impact Iowa on Monday.

Snow accumulations across Iowa will vary, but expect between 5-8 inches in Ames beginning Monday morning through late Monday night.

The heaviest snow is expected from the late morning through the late afternoon with rates of 1-2 inches an hour possible.

Winds will increase during Monday morning and reach 25 to 30 mph with gusts over 40 mph, which will lead to blowing snow conditions.

The warning takes effect Monday morning at 6 a.m. and runs through Tuesday morning at 6 a.m.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected. Strong winds are also possible, which will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
