Mahattan, Kan. — The ISU football football team blew a 21-point lead in a fumbling fashion in Manhattan, Kan., against Kansas State on Saturday.

With just more than 1:30 left in the game, Mike Warren fumbled the ball, allowing the Wildcats to drive and tie the game. On the ensuing drive, Joel Lanning fumbled, leading to a game-winning field goal and a 38-35 final score.

After back-to-back 3-and-outs, Iowa State drew first blood in the opening quarter, scoring on a 15-yard pass from Joel Lanning to Trever Ryen. Kansas State responded with a touchdown of its own, completing a 65-yard, nine-play drive.

Heading into the second quarter, the ISU offense sat a yard out from the end zone on 4th down. The Cyclones attempted to jam it in with a quarterback sneak but were stopped, turning it over on downs.

On the next ISU drive, though, Iowa State found itself in a similar position, but Lanning was able to take it in after on a read option.

The Cyclones scored on their following drive as well, building a 21-7 lead.

Momentum appeared to be building for Iowa State, but Kansas State took the ensuing kickoff into the end zone. Running back Mike Warren snatched the momentum right back, however, running in a 74-yard touchdown.

Iowa State entered the half up 35-14.

Kansas State come right out of the half and drove the field for a touchdown, sparking a comeback.

The Wildcats followed up that drive with another score, putting them within a touchdown of the Cyclones.

Yet the game was all but won before Warren’s fumble and Kansas State’s quick-strike drive to tie the game. Lanning fumbled two offensive plays later and the Cyclones fell on a KSU field goal in the final seconds.
