In a time when coffee is the predominant warm beverage sought out by most Americans, there is a new rising star that is becoming a fast favorite. Tea is an extremely popular drink all over the world, but in the United States it falls short of being number one.

In the last couple of years, however, tea has been making leaps and bounds into the lives of the average person. People are finding that there is a vast variety of tea to choose from, and that each kind has its own handful of benefits.

Listed below are five popular teas and different health benefits for each.

Cinnamon: Cinnamon tea is a sweet beverage known most for helping with weight loss with it’s antioxidant power. It’s best when blended with honey, and because it’s sweet it helps stabilize blood sugar levels, which curbs cravings and helps the body to feel satisfied sooner. Cinnamon tea also helps strengthen the body against viruses and helps to control blood sugar.

Chamomile: Chamomile tea is great for reducing stress. If it is consumed before bed it can aid in peaceful sleep and insomnia problems. It can also be consumed when anxious or depressed to alleviate these feelings. This tea is also great for food digestion with an upset stomach. Along with stomach pain, chamomile tea can lessen pain from menstrual cramps.

Peppermint: Nausea, vomiting, and motion sickness can be relieved with peppermint tea. It’s also a tea that can strengthen immune systems and help soothe mild coughs, mild asthma, congestion, mild aches and chronic pains. In the case of heart problems being present, peppermint tea can lead to deteriorated health and should be avoided.

Ginger: Ginger tea will put a pep in anyone’s step. It can increase energy and acts as a stimulator. Ginger tea is also good for digestion and can calm nausea— especially morning sickness for pregnant women. It’s great for singers because it can strengthen and support vocal chords if sipped on before a performance. Blood circulation can also be improved by drinking ginger tea, which can then help with constipation, painful joints, headaches, fatigue and varicose veins.

Green: Much like cinnamon tea, green tea is widely known for helping with weight loss. It is filled with antioxidants and has caffeine, which helps boost metabolism. Green tea has also shown that it can reduce the chances of cancer and tumors. Cholesterol and triglyceride levels will decrease when this tea is frequently consumed. A few other benefits of this tea is that it strengthens immune systems, fights against tooth decay, and can lower blood pressure.

Whether it’s a hot drink in the morning or an iced beverage for lunch, tea is an all-day kind of drink. There are many other types of tea, with many other types of health benefits. So explore, discover and keep the pinky up.
