Run out of the University of Northern Iowa, Camp Adventure Youth Services helps college students gain world experiences through its partnership with military instillations across the globe.

Founded in 1985 at the University of Oregon, Camp Adventure began when it sent 12 students to three sites in Korea. In 1997, Camp Adventure had sent approximately 600 students to 118 program sites in over 16 countries and as recently in 2011, Camp Adventure sent approximately 1,300 students to over 20 countries.

With programs mainly occurring over the summer, students from over 10 Universities across the United States can gain 12 transferable UNI credit hours for as low as $1,000 a summer.

Benefits of the program include:

  • Paid airfare & housing
  • 12 University of Northern Iowa credit hours
  • Living stipend ($175 a week) to cover summer expenses – food, etc.
  • Experience a new culture
  • Meet new people!
  • Great experience & resume builder, according to an email sent out by the program.

“With the program, it really taught me a lot especially with leadership skills, communication skills and gave me the opportunity to work with kids all around the world,” said Sara Claman, ISU Camp Adventure Trainer.

Any student is welcome to apply for the program, it is just asked that they have about 200 to 400 hours of experience working with children and a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Students looking for more information on the program can attend one of the informational sessions Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. in the Gold Room of the MU and on November 18th at 6 p.m. in room 3219 of the MU.
