ISU running back Sheldon Croney Jr. has been suspended after he was charged with operating while intoxicated.

Croney was found in a car in Lot 89 at around 1:30 a.m. after police responded to a report of a man sleeping in his vehicle, The Des Moines Register reported. The car was running and in drive when the responding officer found Croney unconscious in the vehicle, The Register reported.

After numerous attempts to wake up Croney in his car, police unlocked his car with tools and woke him up, according to The Register. Police then administered a breathalyzer test, revealing that Croney’s blood alcohol content level reached 0.111, The Register reported. The legal limit is 0.08.

“We are aware of the situation with Sheldon and in the process of gathering more information,” said ISU coach Paul Rhoads in a statement. “He has been suspended under the student-athlete code of conduct policy.”

Croney is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing Nov. 30, according to Iowa Courts Online.

Croney, a true freshman, is sitting out this season after recovering from two surgeries stemming from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his left hand that he suffered in his hometown in California in May.
