Cyclone Hockey came out Friday night in front of a packed Ames/ISU Ice Arena and got one of its biggest wins of the season 3-2 over No.2 Lindenwood.

The Lions came out strong by scoring a goal 4:40 into the game courtesy of Brennan Luscombe on the power play after a Adam Alcott slashing penalty. But the Cyclones refused to stay down as freshman Colton Kramer tied the game off an assist from Tony Uglem and Aaron Azevedo.

Then confusion set in after Azevedo appeared to score a power play goal but it wasn’t counted. The game played on for 57 seconds before play was stopped for the refs to look at the replay. It was determined that Azevedo’s shot did go in and the Cyclones took the lead 2-1. Once again, the game was quickly tied back up at 2 points each less than one minute later on a power play goal.

The eventful first period was followed up by a less eventful second period until Chase Rey found the net for the first time this season giving Cyclone Hockey a 3-2 lead that held for the rest of the game.

Goaltender Matt Goedeke held the Lions scoreless after the first period and stopped 33 of 35 shots. The two teams will meet again for game two of the series Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
