On Saturday, the BIEDA club held their second annual 5k race at Ada Hayden Park in Ames.

The race started at 9 a.m. and had a $15 registration fee,  which included a BIEDA water bottle and race bib. In addition, there was also a costume contest that took place during the race. With costumes ranging from mice, monkeys and superheroes the event had something for everyone.

Body Image and Eating Disorder Awareness (BIEDA) first became an official organization on campus in 2013 and have been helping ISU students that suffer with body dysmorphia ever since.

“Our hope as a club is to, every year, expand upon what we did the year prior to spread body positivity and eating disorder awareness throughout campus and the community,” Rachel Dalton, co-president of BIEDA, said. “This is not your typical 5K. Everyone knows someone who has struggled with body image issues. It’s time to talk about it and walk about it.”

The goal of BIEDA is to encourage a positive, sustainable lifestyle through body image and eating disorder awareness and campus/local resource identification.

BIEDA wants to be a voice that will de-stigmatize eating disorders and to help those that are struggling to identify how to receive help.
