Student Government to discuss campus funding

Student Government will be discussing funding resolutions for a number of student organizations and activities during its weekly Senate meeting in the Memorial Union.

Funding bills for cultural student organizations, ISU sports clubs and campus movies are on the agenda for Wednesday night.

A resolution up for discussion is for Cyclone Cinema, which has consistently been funded by Student Government in the past. Due to an unexpected increase in cost of renovation at Carver Hall and operational costs, the funding must increase to $6,683 to meet the higher demand the cinema is receiving.

The Latino Heritage Committee is hosting a cultural night on Nov. 7 and is requesting funding to cover $5,600 of the event. The purpose of the cultural night will be to encourage inclusiveness and provide insight to one of the many cultural groups on campus. The event will include ethnic food, music, dancing and performances.

The Black Student Alliance is requesting funding for a Sunday dinner event that would enable the sharing of culture and traditions with the African-American community. This event would be free and open to all students and would require Student Government to allocate $4,000 for it.

The ISU Swim Club is in need of funding to attend team events in the Midwest after an unexpected membership growth. The club needs $339.90 to cover van rentals to events in Wisconsin and Kansas.

The newly formed ISU Table Tennis Club needs funding to be able to attend events around the region. The amount Student Government would need to allocate is $247.65. The group is planning to fundraise as well to afford the travel and registration fees for a tournament in St. Paul, Minn.
