No. 21 Iowa State sweeps West Virginia

Iowa State swept in dominance against West Virginia on Oct. 21 at Hilton Coliseum winning 25-20, 25-11 and 25-16.

The Cyclones led 15-6 in the first set, but failed to capitalize and allowed West Virginia to come back. Iowa State had four match points before ending it with a Jess Schaben kill.

The second set was all Iowa State. The team had a 5-0 lead and never allowed West Virginia come back into the match win a 25-11 set win.

In the third set, coach Christy Johnson-Lynch allowed more of the bench players to have an opportunity to play more points. This made the set closer in numbers, but Iowa State still got the job and sweep done with a 25-16 set win.

Besides Mackenzie Bigbee and Hali Hillegas, every player has played in this match, which is a first this Big 12 conference season.

The Cyclones will head to Waco, Texas and play the Baylor Bears on Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. Baylor is ranked 30 in the NCAA Women’s Volleyball RPI Rankings with a 2-4 Big 12 record and a 14-6 overall record. Iowa State is ranked 21 in the rankings.
