For students who come from large cities, many struggle to cope with shopping withdrawals.

While Ames is a smaller town, students overlook many stores. These boutiques and consignment shops offer a range of clothing, accessories, shoes and even apartment/dorm décor.

The beautiful downtown area on Main Street has stores like The Loft and Miss Meyers, which are unique, resale clothing stores for teens and adults. Their clothing is in great condition, and they have a variety of well-known brands. While shopping downtown, stop for a coffee at local Café Diem or a gelato at Chocolaterie Stam.

Next, is the North Grand Mall located at 2801 Grand Avenue. Although it isn’t in walking distance from campus, four CyRide busses exist that provide transportation — blue, green, red and brown.

This mall has a range of stores like Victoria’s Secret, Gap, American Eagle, JC Penny, Kohl’s, Express, Bath & Body Works, Eddie Bauer, TJ Maxx, The Buckle and much more. This mall makes the perfect getaway for some retail therapy after a hectic week of classes and studying.

Finally, those who desire to stay around Central Campus can also find an outlet for retail therapy. Portobello Road is located on Welch Avenue directly south of campus. This store is loved by many because of its trendy fashion garments. The boutique offers a mix of clothing, accessories and décor. Some vintage pieces can even be found in the local store.

As Cyclones, spirit clothing cannot be forgotten. Lincoln Way is home to Barefoot, a new store offering unique Cyclone gear. The University Bookstore and TJ Maxx are also frequented for ISU apparel.

Halloween approaches quickly, but Ames has businesses that will assist with creating last-minute Halloween costumes. Random Goods located on Main Street and Decades on Lincoln Way house vintage clothing and costume accessories. Celebrations is the ideal location for Halloween themed party décor. Spirit Halloween is a one-stop-shop for all things Halloween related.

Next time students are seeking a new place to indulge in retail therapy, consider all that Ames has to offer.
