After taking down a 25th ranked team earlier in the day, the ISU volleyball team fell to in-state rivals the Iowa Hawkeyes in four sets (25-17, 17-25, 18-25, 26-28).

The two teams traded punch for punch to start the opening set. Not one team could get larger than a one-point lead.

That all changed when the Hawkeyes took their first timeout as the Cyclones gained a 16-13 lead. Iowa State built a 19-13 lead following the timeout, going on to win 25-17.

Set two didn’t turn out as favorably for the Cyclones.

Iowa scored first to open the set. Once the Hawkeyes gained a three-point lead, that would be the closest the Cyclones would get in the match. Iowa went on to win the second set 25-17.

After an intermission, it was all Iowa once again. Iowa State would fight to get within two points but couldn’t get any closer. The Hawkeyes won set three with a score of 25-18.

In set four, it was the battle of the wills.. The Cyclones got to the set point with the score of 24-23. However, the Hawkeyes would not go away as they tied the set at 24 apiece.

Each team traded blows until Iowa took the lead at 27-26.

The Hawkeyes went on to win set four with the final score of 28-26.

The Cyclones will take the court on Sept. 12 to face the Milwaukee Panthers at 4 p.m.
