Cyclone Hockey muscled past the Missouri State Ice Bears Friday night at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena in the first game of the weekend two-game series.

The first period was relatively quiet compared to the rest of the game. The Ice Bears were the first team on the board but the Cyclones answered with two goals of their own.

Just four penalties were called in the first period, two on the Ice Bears and two on the Cyclones.

The second period saw 10 combined penalties and multiple scuffles. There were just a few fleeting moments where at team didn’t have at least one player in the penalty box. Both teams also netted goals in the physical second period.

The third period was only slightly less physical than the second with seven penalties between the teams.

The Cyclones scored early in the period to give them a two-goal lead, 4-2. The Ice Bears followed that with a goal of their own to cut the lead back down to one. However, the Ice Bears couldn’t keep up with the Cyclones.

The Cyclones went on a scoring flurry to close out the first game of the weekend series, 7-3.

These two teams will meet again tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.
