A touch of Sri Lanka is coming to Iowa State on Monday when Onalie Ariyabandhu, ISU alum, will present “100 Voices Leading for Change,” at 8 p.m. in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union. As a social entrepreneur of United Nations population fund in Sri Lanka, she will discuss the social change initiative that is focused on mobilizing national youth works to battle gender-based violence.

While at Iowa State, Ariyabandhu received degrees in multiple areas including economics, international studies and environmental studies and also maintained office as president of International Student Council. In 2004 Ariyabandhu and her family survived a dangerous tsunami that invaded Sri Lanka. After, she wrote an award-winning essay reflecting the event.

The event is being co-sponsored by Asian American Studies Program, History, International Student Council, International Studies Program, Political Science, University Library, World Languages and Cultures and committee on Lectures, funded by Student Government.
