The Cyclones (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) gave up an early goal to Long Beach State (2-1) and were never able to fully recover as they fell Friday night by a score of 2-1.

Iowa State gave up a goal just six minutes in to the contest, when Long Beach State was awarded a fee kick. Jessica Vincent put the ball in front of the goal and Rocio Rodriguez was able to find the back of the net to put Long Beach State up 1-0.

After allowing the early goal, it was an even matchup for most of the game. Neither side was able to score until the 80th minute when Long Beach State scored on a penalty kick.

The Cyclones had foul trouble all night, getting whistled for 18 fouls compared to six fouls for Long Beach State. Those fouls proved costly as Long Beach State’s two goals came off of a free kick and a penalty kick.

Iowa State tried to mount a late game comeback with Lauren Roeling finding the back of the net in the 83rd minute off a Courtney Camy assist to pull the Cyclones within one goal of tying, but it would be too little too late.

Long Beach State thwarted the remaining late game shots the Cyclones fired and took the 2-1 victory.

Iowa State will conclude it’s weekend road trip at 3 p.m. on Sunday against Pepperdine in Malibu, California.
