Thousands of people filled Reiman Gardens on July 3, 2014 for the Ames sesquicentennial celebration and Independence Day fireworks.

Friday, July 3 – Independence Day Fireworks at Reiman Gardens

Reiman Gardens will be open from 9 a.m. until the conclusion of the firework display, which is across the street from the gardens. 

Admission is free for Reiman Gardens’ members. The cost for the general public is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors (ages 65+), $2 for kids (ages 4-17) and free for kids ages 3 and younger. 

The Young Professionals of Ames, in partnership with the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau Community Grant Program, the city of Ames and Iowa State University will present the fireworks. The display will be launched from Jack Trice Stadium Lot G7.

Saturday, July 4 – Friendship Ark Homes Annual 5! on the 4th! 5K at Ada Hayden Heritage Park.

The 5K run/walk begins at 8 a.m. Saturday. Proceeds benefit Friendship Ark Homes, which provides residential and supported community living services for adults with intellectual disabilities. 

Saturday, July 4 – Fourth of July Community Pancake Breakfast

Free pancakes, sausage and coffee will be served from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the front entrance of Ames City Hall, which is located at 515 Clark Ave. Kids are invited to bring their bikes and decorate them before joining the parade.

The Fourth of July Parade will start after breakfast at 11 a.m. in downtown Ames. 

Saturday, July 4 – Independence Day at the Farm House

Attendees of the old fashioned Fourth of July celebration will have the opportunity to enjoy live music from The Onion Creek Cloggers and Band from 1:30 to 3 p.m. 

At 2 p.m., visitors will be transported through time when a time capsule from 1976 is opened.
