You can cross one candidate off Iowa State’s potential replacement list for Fred Hoiberg.

According to Chris Williams of Cyclone Fanatic, former ISU basketball star and current Phoenix Suns head coach Jeff Hornacek has declined an interview with ISU Athletic Director Jamie Pollard and ISU president Steven Leath. Williams reported that Hornacek’s agent stated that his client has no interest in taking the unfilled vacancy.

Hornacek has been rumored as a candidate for the coaching vacancy because of his ties with Iowa State, as his number hangs in the rafters at Hilton Coliseum, and he is a brand name, which Leath is looking for.

Hornacek is entering the third and final year of his contract with the Suns and has accumulated an 87-77 career coaching record.
