Like many of you, I have struggled through discouraging months trying to land that perfect summer internship. The one that you are proud to talk about when family members and friends ask, “So what are you doing this summer?” The one where you see the logo on the front door and get the sense of belonging and excitement.

I finally found the internship of a lifetime through MassInteract, the nation’s fastest growing Google Trusted Agency. MassInteract has taken Google Street View technology inside of businesses to create Google Business View.

My journey started in December, checking websites like Glassdoor and Internmatch at least 3 times a day. I was determined to get my foot in the door as early as possible, even though many people told me that companies do not start the internship process until at least March. I didn’t care. I wanted the best internship that worked for me.

April came around and I still had not heard anything. I had applied to 40 different companies. Frustrated and confused, my initial thoughts were maybe I’m not experienced enough, or maybe they just didn’t like me on paper. Before I knew it, my junior year of college was over and it was time to head back to Chicago for the summer. I had no internship and no idea of what to do next.

Then in May, I received an email from Adil Qayyum from MassInteract explaining they were still hiring summer interns. I was interviewed over the phone the next day, and he offered me the position when we finished. I hung up the phone with the biggest smile on my face and a tremendous sense of accomplishment.

I have been at MassInteract for two weeks now. Every day, I’m learning how to promote the business through creative public relations strategies. Working for a Google Trusted Agency seemed very overwhelming at first, but I have had tremendous assistance from the group. From the moment I walked through the door on my first day, I felt welcomed.

The atmosphere at MassInteract has made my internship the ideal place to have my first job outside of school. I am acquiring skills that will last me a lifetime and making valuable connections.

So here’s my advice to you: Do not get discouraged. Keep checking online to see what opportunities await you, and do not stop when you are told no. Push through the frustration because there is a light at the end of the tunnel, even if you may not see it at first.
