Seven Oaks Recreation

Located in Boone, Seven Oaks features year-round outdoor recreation. During the spring and summer, Seven Oaks Recreation offers canoeing, kayaking, river tubing, paintball, mountain biking and tent camping. Disc golfing

Gateway Hills Park and Iowa State University’s Stable Run DCG are located in Ames, and they both feature a full 18-holes. Centennial Park sports nine holes, located in Huxley. Big Creek State Park (18 holes) is located in Polk City, Edgewood Park (12 holes) is in Madrid and Walnut Ride (18 holes) is in Johnston. Long story short: disc golfing courses are all over the area; disc golfing is a great way to get outside, compete with others and enjoy the day.

Adult sport activity leagues

Ames Parks and Recreation has many options for adult involvement in sport leagues, including basketball, golf, indoor and sand volleyball, soccer, softball and ultimate Frisbee. Go online to CityofAmes.org to find out more.

Yoga in the Park

Ames Park and Recreation also offers free yoga classes Saturday mornings from 10 to 11 a.m. The classes run from June 6 to Aug. 1, and there’s never class on July 4. The classes are held at the Ames Band Shell Park, 6th Street and Duff Avenue; certified yoga instructors from Ames yoga studios teach classes that’ll fit any skill level.  For more information, you can contact Nancy Shaw at [email protected].

Ada Hayden Heritage Park

Located in north Ames (5205 Grand), Ada Hayden features picnic tables, covered shelters, picnic areas, restroom, a walking path and paved bike path, nature area, grills and a drinking fountain and water spigot. You can also fish and there’s boat access at Ada Hayden, so get out there and enjoy the spot.
