Adidas teams up with Spotify to DJ your run

Listening to music while running can greatly enhance your workout, especially if it helps drown out the voice in your head telling you to start walking or that you’re out of shape. Unfortunately, syncing up the song your listening to with your cadence is nearly impossible.

That’s why Adidas and Spotify have teamed up to create a very unique mobile app designed for runners. It’s called Adidas Go and it matches music playlists to the pace of the runner’s stride. The app uses the iPhone’s accelerometer and then calculates the user’s stride rate and identifies songs with similar beats per minute so a workout can be completely in-sync with the music from the user’s Spotify playlist. Adidas Go can also enable runners to find new music on the go through suggested Spotify tracks based on the user’s most listened to artists, playlists and genres.

Despite its Spotify affiliation, the app is also capable of pulling songs from your local music library to sync with your workout. Also, if paired up with Adidas’ existing miCoach app, Go can serve as an all-around fitness tracker complete with activity logs, workout statistics and the ability to smugly share your workout with all your Facebook friends.

I actually tested the app earlier today when I went for a run across campus, and after a few minutes of gathering information, the songs that played from my music library were perfectly in-sync with my pace, so much that it actually made me want to keep running farther. I’d certainly recommend this app for anyone looking to give his or her workout an extra boost. Adidas Go is available exclusively for iOS devices and can be downloaded through the Apple App Store.
