Cyclones hope to reverse road struggles

Alex Gookin

While Iowa State’s road struggles have been well-documented, with a 6-7 record away from Hilton Coliseum and a 3-5 record against Big 12 opponents.

However, the struggles may not be all about playing away from home as much as playing in front of smaller crowds. The Cyclones are used to playing in front of sellout crowds in the 14,000-plus capacity of Hilton Coliseum. Playing in front of smaller crowds, however, has not been as successful.

The Cyclones have gone just 2-4 in games played in front of crowds of less than 10,000 this season:

3,546 — Loss to South Carolina

6,576 — Loss to Baylor

7,612 — Win vs. Oklahoma State

8,321 — Win vs. Alabama

9,034 — Loss to Maryland

9,310 — Loss to Texas Tech

Iowa State will take on Texas Christian in the 4,759-seat Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center at 7:30 p.m. March 8.
