Deaf Awareness Week educates about deaf culture

This week marks Deaf Awareness Week, a week dedicated to raising awareness about deaf culture.

Tuesday, March 3:

Free hot chocolate at the Free Speech Zone outside of Parks Library to learn more about Deaf Awareness Week and purchase merchandise.

“The Deaf World”

Location: Physics Hall 0003

Hours: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

An opportunity to learn some American sign language vocabulary and develop a better understanding of the deaf culture.

Wednesday, March 4

Pizza Fundraiser and Book Drive

Central Campus

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

People can buy a slice of pizza for $2 on Central Campus or bring a book to trade for a slice. All proceeds will go toward deaf schools in Africa.

Thursday, March 5

Free Movie: “The Hammer”

Cardinal Room, Memorial Union

7  to 10:30 p.m.

There will be a free showing of the movie, “The Hammer” with free beverages for the first 100 attendees. A panel, led by Michael Ballard, instructor of world languages and cultures, to follow the movie with members of the deaf community sharing testimonials. Sponsored by the Department of World Languages and Cultures.

Friday March 6

ASL Club at ISU AfterDark

Memorial Union

9 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Attendees have the opportunity to learn sign language with ASL Club at ISU AfterDark.
