Kyven Gadson only needed two periods. Two periods to realize his dream.

Gadson defeated Ohio State’s Kyle Snyder in four minutes and 24 seconds into the match to become Iowa State’s 69th national champion and first since Jon Reader stood atop the podium in 2011.

The first period ended in a scoreless draw, with Gadson taking two shots but coming away empty. Snyder chose down to start the second and promptly escaped, going up 1-0.

Then Kyven locked up with Snyder and took him straight to his back. Seconds later, the ref’s hand hit the mat.

It was Gadson’s second pin of the tournament, his first coming in the second round.
