Gov. Terry Branstad appointed three new individuals to serve on the Board of Regents, according to a list of gubernatorial appointees released Monday.

Three board members — Robert Downer, Ruth Harkin and Hannah Walsh — whose terms end April 30, were not on the list of appointees.

The three individuals appointed to serve on the board, which is the governing body for Iowa’s public universities and specialty schools, are:

Mary Andringa, Mitchellville

Patricia Cownie, Des Moines

Rachael Johnson, Sioux City, student government representative from the University of Northern Iowa

Downer, Iowa City, was first appointed to the regents in 2003 and reappointed in 2009.

Harkin, Cumming, was first appointed in 2005 and reappointed in 2009.

Walsh, a student representative from the University of Iowa, was appointed in 2012.

The Board of Regents consists of nine members, one of whom is a full-time student at one of the regent universities, appointed by the governor and then subject to approval by the Senate. Members are appointed to staggered six-year terms.
