Past results at Hurricane Invitational could bode well for ISU women’s golf

Senior Chonlada Chayanun notched her first collegiate victory at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 17. Almost a year earlier on March 5, 2014, fellow Thai and then-senior Sasikarn On-iam tied for first at the Hurricane Invitational to earn her first medalist/co-medalist honors.

No. 30 Iowa State will return to Coral Gables, Fla., to compete once again at the Hurricane Invitational on March 2. The Cyclones as a team almost joined On-iam on top last year, falling one shot short to finish in second place.

The bulk of the credit for the Cyclones’ near miss was attributed to On-iam’s career performance, but the team also received contributions from current members making a return trip to the Sunshine State this week.

Chayanun posted rounds of 73, 70 and 72 to tie for seventh place at three-over-par. Junior Cajsa Persson recorded totals of 72, 74 and 75 to finish in a tie for 26th place at seven-over-par.

Freshmen Celia Barquin, M.J. Kamin and Nattapan Siritrai will make their first appearance at the Hurricane Invitational, which will be held from March 2 to 4 at the Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Fla.
