Screen Scene Thursday: No Escape

Sam Vander Forest

Owen Wilson has made a name for himself as the go-to guy for laugh-out-loud comedies, but he’s always had an itch for taking on more serious roles. His partner in crime, Vince Vaughn, has had the same feeling and is getting his shot to do so in the upcoming second season of HBO’s “True Detective.”

Wilson’s next movie, “No Escape,” is looking to fill that void as an action thriller set in an unknown Asian country. His character is a father of two daughters who finds himself moving his family across the world to Asia, likely for business, but soon finds his family in the middle of an uprising.

Riots break out in the streets and he and his wife (played by Lake Bell) try to get their family out of the country where foreigners are being executed all around them. Pierce Brosnan plays a role in the movie as well, but we’re unsure what that role will be. The trailer makes it look like he is an ally in this frantic time, as he is a foreigner as well, but that could just be what they want us to think.

The film was originally titled “The Coup,” but was changed since the studio felt that not many people understood what the word meant. Just goes to show how illiterate we are. However, it will be nice to see if Wilson can thrive in a role like this and how the film turns out with a comedian at the helm.

The film is set to be released on September 2 of this year, but you can check out the trailer below.
