Those planning on showcasing their selfie stick skills at this summer’s music festivals may want to think twice. The monopods used to take selfie photographs by positioning a smartphone beyond the normal range of the arm have now been listed as “prohibited items” at U.S. festivals.

With less than two weeks till the first weekend of Coachella begins in Indio, Calif. on April 10, organizers have announced that the devices are banned. Lollapalooza, the Grant Park, Chicago festival that takes place on July 31 to Aug. 2, has also issued a warning to attendees planning on bringing selfie sticks to the festival.

Brooklynvegan.com reports that under Lollapalooza’s Frequently Asked Questions section on their site states that there should be no “GoPro attachments like sticks, selfie sticks and monopods.” Coachella’s Rule’s and Policies section of their site similarly dictates that “Selfie sticks / Narcissists” are banned from attending.

However, the ruling on selfie sticks is still to be decided at other U.S. festivals such as Bonnaroo, Governors Ball and Sasquatch.

The decisions made by Lollapalooza and Coachella follows specifications made by music festivals in the UK. Selfie sticks were banned from O2 Academy Brixton, London’s O2 Arena and the SSE Wembley Arena, some of Britain’s major music venues. The devices, which were some of the most popular Christmas gifts of 2014, were prohibited from venues due to safety concerns.

A spokesperson for the Wembely SSE Arena told NME.com that they acknowledged that taking pictures is a big part of the live music experience; anything that blocks the view of others is not welcome. “The sticks might mean you are refused entry to the venue, so our advice is don’t bring them and stick with the tried and tested use of an arm.”

Owners of the O2 Academy Brixton, The Academy Music Group, added: “Selfie Sticks are not permitted at Academy Music Group venues. This is in keeping with our existing policy that prohibits the filming and photography during a performance with iPads and other tablet devices and includes any such obstructions for the satisfaction of other customers.”

AC/DC, Jack White and Drake will headline Coachella 2015, which takes place on the weekends of April 10-12 and 17-19. Paul McCartney, Metallica and Florence + The Machine with headline Lollapalooza 2015.
