Super Bowl weekend brought just as many snowball fights and snowmen as it did Doritos commercials.

Ames and Central Iowa is expected to see up to a foot of snow over the weekend, with gusts of wind reaching up to 45 miles per hour.

As of 1 p.m. Sunday, Ames received about 9 inches of snow, according to Iowa Environmental Mesonet.

Wind chills are expected to drop to 5 to 10 below zero.

Roads will be snow-covered and slick with hazardous driving conditions. The heavy and wet snow coated trees all over central Iowa may cause tree damage.

The likeliness of power outages will increase as winds increase as the afternoon continues, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service advises not to drive unless absolutely necessary.

If you must drive, make sure to have an extra flashlight, blankets, bottled water and a car kit in your vehicle.
