Story lines galore in ISU women’s final home game

As the Cyclones gear up for their final game at Hilton this season, there is plenty of story lines occurring.

Records, milestones, conference and NCAA tournament positioning will all be on the line when No. 3 Baylor rolls into town at 3 p.m. on Feb. 27.

Moody breaking records

Last time out, Moody tied the ISU all-time career assist record. Moody currently sits at 719 career assists, tied with Lyndsey (Medders) Fennelly, who is now ISU coach Bill Fennelly’s daughter-in-law. Moody will likely stand alone at the top of the list after the Baylor game.

Fennelly’s milestone

The dean of Iowa State women’s basketball will go for career win number 600 this weekend. Fennelly is in his 20th year at Iowa State and previously coached at Toledo.

Senior day

The game against Baylor will also serve as senior day for the Cyclones. The team has three seniors this year in Moody, Brynn Williamson and Fallon Ellis. It will be the senior’s final game at Hilton in front of the Cyclone faithful.

Post-season implications

Last, but certainly not least in the minds of the Cyclones, is that major post-season implications will be on the line when the Cyclones take on No. 3 Baylor.

A win against the highly-ranked team would likely cement the Cyclones’ place in the NCAA tournament, as the team currently sits on the bubble.

However, even with a loss, the Cyclones will still be on the bubble and maintain a shot to get into the big dance.

Additionally, the Cyclones currently sit in a four-way tie for third place in the conference standings.

With so many teams so close in the standings, any wins the Cyclones are able to scrap up in the final week of the season could be highly beneficial once the Big 12 championship rolls around.
