Hopefully you checked out the app last week and heard of our new weekly segment “Early Bird EDM,” but if you didn’t, here’s what it’s all about. Each week I’ll be getting a little help from my good friend Alex McKinnon, who you can check out on Soundcloud at McKinnon82, and will be bringing you the newest remixes and original tracks from the EDM genre.

This week was a tough choice, but ultimately it felt right to go with a gritty remix to the track “Hypnotic” by the up-and-coming star Zella Day. Zella Day is from a small town in Arizona and had an impressive year in 2014, being described as the “happier Lana Del Rey,” and becoming one of the most blogged about artists of the year. Her sound has a slight country twang to it, while still bringing the perfect electronic sound. Her lyrics also provide some great opportunities for the EDM genre and possibilities for expansion and remixes, which is exactly what Vanic did in this remix.

Vanic is a Canadian DJ who specializes in remixes, and made a big splash in 2014 with his remix of “The Mother We Share.” That song, however, began with a lighter undertone and ultimately had a different feeling. His remix to “Hypnotic” keeps all of the important features from the original track, but adds the perfect drop to turn Day’s original song into one fine party track. Check out the song on Soundcloud or the YouTube link below and I’m sure you’ll be bobbing your head to it—it even has a free download available in the description.
