The women’s high jump, weight throw and long jump set the field for the ISU women at the Iowa State Classic, and the 5000-meter race tied the ribbon on day one of the two-day event.

Freshman Jhoanmy Luque earned a personal record in the women’s long jump with a mark of 6.20 meters. Luque’s jump is now ranked 14th in the nation and fifth in the ISU record book.

In the high jump, three ISU athletes finished with jumps inside the top 10. The ISU group was led by sophomore Marine Vallet’s, whose 1.81-meter mark placed her 16th nationally in the event. Redshirt senior Hannah Willms followed with a sixth-place performance and redshirt freshman Katie Reeves finished eighth.

The 5000-meter event featured two of the top-10 fastest times in the nation. Junior Molly Seidel of Notre Dame finished first in the event, followed by ISU graduate student Margaret Connelly, who ran the fourth fastest time in program history and the 10th fastest time in the country.

Another two personal records were set in addition to Connelly’s in the 5000-meter by junior Perez Rotich and redshirt freshman Erin Hooker. The pair finished 13th and 14th, respectively.

The 5000-meter is only the beginning of an Iowa State Classic event loaded with middle and long-distance events. Day two will begin with section 2 of the women’s 3000-meter event at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 14 at Lied Recreation Athletic Center.
