Kanye being Kanye

Kanye West has been known for his antics in the past, and once again, his wild theatrics have landed him in the news. For those of you who haven’t heard, at this most recent Grammy awards, Beck won “Best Rock Album” and “Album of the Year”. While Beck was on stage to accept his album of the year award, Kanye hopped on stage then off again quickly, in a sense making a joke that Beck did not deserve the award.

After the awards ceremony was over Kanye had this to say about Beck, “I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more. And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his award to Beyoncé. Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration and we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place.”

Everyone did not share Kanye’s opinion. Two-time Super Bowl champion and Patriots cornerback Brandon Browner took to Twitter. Browner’s tweets said:

“KANYE WEST is a sucka! Everybody don’t listen to Beyoncé. Second time he tried to steal somebody shine. First time it was a 15 yr old girl”

“Kanye try and play that I’m weird because of my genius. Non of the greats pull that stupid ish. Meaning Marley, Mike Jack, Tupac, Jayz etc”

“Peep who he tried Beck and Taylor Swift. Real tough guy. If only I could’ve  been Beck for one night. Kanye would be rapping thru the wire”

“Did Kanye get a award last night? I think he was just there so he won’t get fined (I’m in beast mode) shot out the realist Marshawn”.

Kanye has stood up for Beyoncé in the past. In 2012, Kanye got on stage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for her “Video of the Year” award, took the mic from her hands and went on to say that the award belonged to Beyoncé. This sparked huge criticism and parodies for weeks after the awards.

No matter what side you’re on, the fact cannot be denied that Beck deserves recognition for his musical abilities. Beck, who can play 16 musical instruments, wrote and produced his Grammy-winning album. After hearing what Kanye said about him, Beck replied, “You can’t please everybody. I still love him and think he’s genius. I aspire to what he does. How many great records has he put out in the last five years, right?”
