No trey, no trouble for Iowa State in previous two wins

Iowa State is known for shooting the trey. At more than 21.5 attempts per game, the Cyclones shoot it as frequently as almost any team in the country, yet over the previous two games, the 3-point attempt numbers have plummeted.

Iowa State shot an abysmal 6-of-31 from deep in a shocking 78-73 defeat at the hands of Texas Tech a week ago. In the last two contests, the Cyclones have attempted 14 against Texas and only 11 against Texas Christian. However, in both match-ups, the Cyclones have tallied as many makes — six — as they did against the Red Raiders.

The change has led to a more efficient ISU offense, which shot 54.7 percent from the field against the Longhorns and 56.4 percent Jan. 31 versus TCU.

“We are still going to shoot them if they are open,” Hoiberg said. “We just took too many contested ones against Texas Tech.”
