Moody fights through ankle injury

Ankle injuries can be tricky, especially in the middle of a season. But senior guard Nikki Moody was determined not to let it affect her any more than it has to.

Moody suffered a mild ankle sprain last week against TCU, but still finished the game. Moody didn’t practice fully in the days leading up to the Texas game Jan. 25, and even ISU coach Bill Fennelly didn’t know if she was going to see the court against the Longhorns.

“When we walked out of the shoot around, I didn’t think she was going to play,” Fennelly said.

Moody, however, had a whole different mindset before the contest.

“I was going to play regardless,” Moody said. “I know coach wanted to be cautious because we have a long week ahead, but I told him at the end of the day, I’m going to play.”

Fennelly said that Moody wouldn’t practice this week while nursing the sprained ankle, and that they are still taking the injury day-by-day.

“She won’t practice today,” Fennelly said. “Maybe that’s the best thing for her. Don’t practice, just show up to games. She’ll love that.”
