Woman drunk off of vanilla extract

Hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol, mouthwash, cold medicine and now … vanilla extract. You’ve guessed it: a “homemade” way to get drunk that’s just as ridiculous, if not more-than the other previous and unhealthy ways.

Behind the funny concept is an even funnier story. According to the New York Daily News, a woman, who downed two bottles of vanilla extract, was pulled over in a New York Walmart parking lot after haphazardly circling the lot, reportedly unable to find her way out.

Syracuse.com reports that 46-year-old Carolyn Kesel was attempting to return to her home in Seneca Falls from the town of Lyons. She ended up in the Macedon Walmart parking lot, which is about 20 miles in the opposite direction.

As ridiculous as this may sound, Kesel had a BAC of .26, three times the legal limit. The vanilla extract had a 41 percent alcohol level, which puts it in the same league as your typical vodka, gin, whisky or rum.

Kesel was charged with a felony DWI following her liberation from the parking lot and was arrested on the spot. She was also charged with felony aggravated DWI because of another DWI conviction that occurred in 2006.
