The crowd atmosphere is a main reason why Hilton Coliseum makes the top-10 college basketball arenas list. Ever since 1971 when it first opened, Hilton Coliseum has had a high stature in college basketball.

After months of speculation, the rumor is now fact: College GameDay is coming to Ames.

For the first time in ISU history, ESPN College GameDay Covered by State Farm will host its pregame show at Hilton Coliseum, as the Cyclones prepare to take on the Kansas Jayhawks at 8 p.m. on Jan. 17.

GameDay is ESPN’s signature college basketball pregame show, beginning at 9 a.m. on ESPNU before switching over to ESPN at 10 a.m., capped off by evening coverage leading into the matchup. Doors will open at 7 a.m.

ESPN’s College GameDay will feature long-time hosts Rece Davis and Jay Bilas, along with analysts Seth Greenberg and Jay Williams. Bilas will also call the game, with Dan Shulman doing play-by-play and Shannon Spake reporting from the sidelines.

Iowa State and Kansas will face off in what has become a bit of a rivalry game since Fred Hoiberg has taken over as coach of the Cyclones. ISU students had to claim their tickets to the Kansas game Dec. 6, but the early pick-up didn’t deter them from camping out in high volume to secure a spot closest to the floor.

The Cyclones will take on the Jayhawks at 8 p.m. on Jan. 17 at Hilton Coliseum, with coverage available by ESPN College GameDay on ESPN.
