Keys to avoid awkward situations when addressing instructors

Matthew Rezab

Ever been in an awkward situation when you weren’t sure how to address a teacher? Five keys to avoid offending your instructor by addressing them incorrectly.

– Always look up the title of an instructor before the first day of class.

– Don’t assume an instructor has a particular degree.

– Address the instructor by their formal title until permission is given otherwise.

– Use “Mr.” or “Ms.” if unsure of his or her official title.

– Ask politely how the instructor prefers to be addressed.
