By the numbers: Beauty and the Beast

The ISU gymnastics team put forth record-setting scores in a heartbreaking second place finish at Beauty and the Beast on Jan. 18. Led by senior Caitlin Brown, the Cyclones fell just a fraction of a point short of claiming victory at the gymnastics-wrestling combination event.

By the numbers

0.025: The smallest possible fraction of a point that exists in gymnastics and the difference between Oregon State’s and Iowa State’s overall scores.

2.475: The improvement in score that the ISU gymnastics team made from its first meet in Minnesota to Beauty and the Beast.

9.950: The scores accomplished by both junior Sammie Pearsall and senior Caitlin Brown on the balance beam, tying them both for the school record in the event.

49.425: The combined team score for Iowa State on the balance beam. The number tied the third best score on the balance beam in school history.

5,603: Total number in attendance at Hilton Coliseum for the event.

Jan. 17, 2004: Last time the Cyclones achieved as high of a score as 195.950 in their second meet of the year.
