Injury update: Jadda Buckley out for “extended period of time”

Life in the Big 12 is not easy and it just got a little bit more difficult for the Cyclones.

ISU coach Bill Fennelly announced today that sophomore starting point guard Jadda Buckley will be out for “an extended period of time” due to a lingering stress injury in her foot.

Buckley sat out three games before returning to the lineup and playing limited minutes against Kansas State and TCU. After the TCU game, the injury began causing trouble yet again and Buckley sat out against Texas and Baylor.

Now, the Cyclones are not sure when exactly they will get her back.

“It’s going to be a while,” Fennelly said. “She definitely had a setback. Everyone wants to know when … I want to know when, but it’s going to be a while.”

Fennelly said the time frame of her recovery is still unclear and it will likely be unclear for a couple of weeks.

“I think it could be anything from a couple weeks to a lot longer,” Fennelly said. “We are just going to let the doctors do their deal for the next couple weeks.”

Buckley, who was in a boot previously, is now in a cast to prevent any movement that would prolong the injury.

“It’s the same injury, its just not healing,” Fennelly said. “When it’s in your foot, that’s a bad place for a basketball player to have an injury. The doctors have tried everything they can, so now they are going to a little more drastic measure, which means you put it in a cast.”

When asked about the injury being potentially a month-long or even season-ending injury for Buckley, Fennelly said he is not sure and that “anything is possible.”
