The Board of Regents is holding a special meeting today to discuss University of Iowa President Sally Mason’s decision to retire.

The meeting is at 10 a.m. Jan. 20 at Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union at the University of Iowa.

The purpose of the meeting is to conduct an evaluation of Mason, who announced she planned to retire Aug. 1, in closed session. Mason began her term as the University of Iowa President in August 2007.

The board will also, upon Mason’s request and in compliance with Iowa Code, authorize the executive director to develop a process and timetable for the presidential search at the University of Iowa, according to the Board of Regents.
