ISU comes up clutch on senior day against WV

ISU was victorious in Beyer Hall on senior day with a 157-143 victory in Beyer Hall.

 

A close meet until the finish for ISU and WV that was eventually decided in the final relay.

 

To begin the meet, ISU was unable to capture a victory in a tight fought 400-yard medley relay. They finished in second and third to open the meet.

 

The tight race in the opening relay resembled not only what each race would look like, but also the score and finish of the meet.

 

Before 3-meter diving and the halfway point of the event, the Cyclones had victories from only Sarah Deis in the 200-yard freestyle and Amanda Paulson in the 50-yard freestyle.

 

This was Paulson’s first victory of the day, but with a loss in the opening relay, she was unable to get to 100 career victories on senior day.

 

Julie Dickinson was the only scorer for the ISU divers finishing in second place.

 

The only two victors at this point in the meet for ISU, Paulson and Deis, finished first and second in the 100-yard freestyle.

 

Through nine events, ISU led WV 86-83.

 

Marissa Engel was able to add to the list of victors for ISU in the 200-yard backstroke by just out-touching the wall against WV.

 

Back to back victories were captured by the Cyclones with a win by Kasey Roberts in the 200-yard breaststroke.

 

After 12 events ISU had a 121-105 led, however following a sweep in the 100-yard butterfly for WV, The Cyclones remain in the lead by just 3 points 124-121.

 

Elyse Brouillette was Cyclone diving’s only scorer in 1-meter diving finishing in third place.

 

WV was able to keep its momentum and take the lead heading into the final two events of the meet. After 14 events, WV led ISU 136-128.

 

A huge sweep and the only sweep for ISU on the day in the 400-yard relay put the score at 144-139 ISU as the Cyclones regained the lead and momentum heading into the final relay.

 

The event was decided in the final 200-yard freestyle relay.

 

First and third place finishes for ISU in the final relay solidified a 157-143 victory for ISU on senior day.
