How to combat procrastination

Michaela Ramm

You’ve had all week to write that 10-page paper, but you didn’t do it. So now you’re pulling an all-nighter the day before it’s due and hoping that it’s good enough to pass the class. Sound familiar at all? Instead of making your life more difficult, turn off Netflix and use these tips to stop your excessive procrastination.

Make a to-do list: Put the most important items first to guarantee you get them done first.

Create a reward system: Let yourself go out with friends if you finish that big project by the weekend.

Get rid of temptations: Work in the library so you aren’t tempted to turn on the TV.

Break it down: For the more daunting tasks, break it up into several, smaller goals.

Ask a friend: If you can motivate yourself on your own, get a friend to help you with your work.

If none of these work, getting help from an academic advisor for time management and prioritizing will help put you at ease.
