The Lowdown

In the final Cyclone Challenge game ever, ISU coach Bill Fennelly had a goal to finish on top. And that’s exactly what he did.

Iowa State (9-2, 0-0 Big 12) defeated UC Riverside (8-5, 0-0 Big West) 71-54 in the championship game of the Cyclone Challenge, improving Fennelly’s record to a perfect 34-0 in the event.

The Cyclones opened the game on an 8-0 run over the Highlanders, starting out much faster than they did in the opening round against Howard on Monday. They were able to maintain their lead throughout the half, shooting nearly 40 percent from the three-point line.

The second half proved to be more of the same, with the Cyclones extending their lead to 18 points at the peak of their run. Nikki Moody finished the game with 19 points, leading the Cyclones. Seanna Johnson followed close behind with 18 points and 13 rebounds, recording her second double-double in two days.

X-Factor: Nikki Moody

Once again, senior guard Nikki Moody proved why she is one of the league’s best guards. Moody finished the game with 19 points, 14 of which came in the first half. The Dallas native also finished with six rebounds, five assists and shot 3-of-6 from the three-point line.
