Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki reach milestones

This week, two of the biggest stars in basketball accomplished some feats. We will start with Kobe Bryant, who, as of Tuesday night, is now the all-time leader in missed field goals. This may not come as too big of a surprise to many, seeing as there really is not a moment in any game where the ball is not in his hands. Known as one of the most dominant scorers in league history, the only active player from the star 1996 draft class is still making his presence felt as he currently leads the league in points per game. If one puts all of that into perspective, along with the fact that he is soon to pass Michael Jordan for third on the all-time scoring lists, maybe it is not such a bad thing that he missed all of those shots. That is his game, he is a high volume shooter with five titles to show for it.

In other news, Dirk Nowitzki, the big man for the Dallas Mavericks, just passed Hakeem Olajuwan for ninth on the all-time scoring list. With this milestone, he is also now regarded as the highest-scoring International player of all time, hailing from Germany. With his unorthodox play style for a big man, revolving around intricate post moves and a sweet three point shot, it is also not of too much surprise to see him passing the Rocket’s great. Dirk’s game is not heavily reliant on athleticism, and he does not bang down low with others big men often, so his longevity and health is to be expected. Nonetheless, it is rare in today’s age to see a player play his entire career for one team (though he was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks). Congrats Dirk and Kobe, keep making sweet basketball shots.
