Freshman forward Claire Ricketts of the ISU women’s basketball team will have surgery on her wrist and will miss substantial time, the ISU athletic department announced Nov. 25.

Ricketts first injured her wrist in the team’s season opener against USC upstate, and has struggled with it since. Ricketts continued to play through the injury while wearing a brace, but doctors determined that her wrist was indeed fractured and that she would need surgery.

Ricketts, who hails from Parker, Texas, started in both exhibition games for the Cyclones this season, but has yet to start in a regular season game. Through the Cyclones’ first three games, Ricketts has averaged 7.7 minutes per game and averages 2.3 points per contest.

Ricketts will have surgery today, Nov. 25, and is expected to miss eight to 12 weeks. She will not travel with the rest of the team when they head out to California to play in the St. Mary’s Classic on Nov. 29.
