Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The much debated and highly anticipated continuation of George Lucas’ “Star Wars” universe has now been given a name; “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

The title gives a bit of a glimpse into what the plot will entail, when director J.J. Abrams has done a good job of keeping things under wraps. There hasn’t been any updated artwork in the IMDb page and almost no specific plot updates, except that it will take place 30 years after the defeat of the Empire and Darth Vader in the “Return of the Jedi.”

The new title may confirm certain rumors that have floated around about the movies plot; mainly that The Empire has not simply rolled over and died. There are also rumors that have fairly good merit, stating that the three teenage additions will be the lead for the story, and that John Boyega’s character is a stormtrooper turned good.

One of the first leaked rumors to float on the Internet was that the young characters find a severed hand holding a lightsaber and begin a quest to return it; ultimately leading to the introduction of Han Solo, Chewbacca and company. This will set in motion the rest of the story- or so we think.

J.J. Abrams is the absolute master in my eyes of building hype for a movie and teasing fans through production. One of the best examples was his 2008 film “Cloverfield.” Although many fans were upset by his filming style, it will still go down as one of the most intricately pieced releases and one that set the trend for interactive fan research and backstories.

Although it is still too early to know for sure thanks to J.J. Abrams keen eye for mysticism and strategic build-ups, we thought you should be updated on what we know so far about Disney’s expansion of the Star Wars universe. The film has completed principal photography, and although there still is a lot more production to be done since it is a Star Wars movie, the movie is well on its way and fans are getting excited. We’ve still got a year until we get to see those big yellow letters glide across the big screen, but get ready for Disney, George Lucas and Abrams to release one hell of a movie on December 18, 2015.
