Bethanie Brown recalls 2013 NCAA Championship

Sophomore Bethanie Brown has spent only one full season with Iowa State and has competed in only one event this year but is no stranger to the NCAA Championship.

Brown finished 37th overall at last year’s National Championship event, earning All-American honors by placing inside the top 40. Brown joined junior Crystal Nelson as the only two Cyclones to achieve the award. For the second straight season, Brown will be competing in the event on Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.

“I think [the experience] will help me because I know last year was really cold, the conditions were horrible and it was really wet,” Brown said. “It was just terrible, but I ran through it and I got through it.”

Brown hasn’t raced since Sept. 27 at the Roy Griak Invitational, but said she isn’t as worried entering Terre Haute this year.

“Coming into it this year, I think I’m a little more calm in terms of knowing whatever the conditions are,” Brown said. “Everybody else has to go through them too. It worked last year, so whatever happens this year, it’s going to be fine.”

Brown joins a loaded lineup that has hit its stride of late, claiming both the Big 12 and Midwest Regional titles.
